The 2009 Rob Leatham DrillMaster Summer Nationals was held July 26th 2009 at the Rio Salado Sportsman Club in Mesa Arizona. At 109 degrees you could say that the competition was heated… or maybe just plain hot! Either way you’d be right on all counts. If you’re not familiar with the concept of Rob Leatham’s DrillMaster Shooting Club it is an on-line membership club that provides members with access to practice drills designed and used by Rob Leatham.

“Build it and they will come” describes the 138th Annual NRA Convention held in Phoenix Arizona May 14 – 17th, 2009. Attendees flocked to the Phoenix Convention Center an estimated 64,000 strong, standing in lines up to 2 hours for a chance to get into the show. Reportedly the largest convention to date held at the Phoenix Convention Center.

I just completed Rob Leatham’s “Day of Steel” for the second time in as many years. These classes are offered a couple times each year. This is a one day event starting in the morning with instruction from Rob and culminating in the afternoon shooting the “Tuesday Night Steel” event at Rio Salado here in Mesa Arizona.

The Scene: Just before dawn day 2 of the 2008 Rio Salado Desert Classic Area 2 Championship, Stage 2 “And This Is For You”. Squad 21 receives their briefing and begins to prepare. The first shooter of the day loads in the predawn light, knife in hand awaits the signal to begin. Are you ready, Standby, the morning explodes awake with the new day of competition.
