The 2009 Rob Leatham DrillMaster Summer Nationals was held July 26th 2009 at the Rio Salado Sportsman Club in Mesa Arizona. At 109 degrees you could say that the competition was heated… or maybe just plain hot! Either way you’d be right on all counts. The United States Practical Shooting Association is the controlling body for the American region of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (see below). Known as USPSA the American region is the largest individual region with a membership of 15,000 with affiliated clubs across the nation.

International Practical Shooting Confederation better known as IPSC, (pronounced ip-sick), is credited with organizing a governing structure around an informal style of competition emerging primarily from a group of shooters in Southern California beginning in the late 1950′s.

The Scene: Just before dawn day 2 of the 2008 Rio Salado Desert Classic Area 2 Championship, Stage 2 “And This Is For You”. Squad 21 receives their briefing and begins to prepare. The first shooter of the day loads in the predawn light, knife in hand awaits the signal to begin. Are you ready, Standby, the morning explodes awake with the new day of competition.
