USPSA Open Production Final Day 4

The 2009 USPSA Open Production National Championships are over. While unofficial as I write this it looks like 2008 Production National Champion Bob Vogel shooting for Team Eotac has successfully defended his title with a comfortable win. Bob shot a consistent, steady match avoiding costly mistakes that plagued many other shooters.

The Open title is another matter altogether. JJ Racaza was leading by slim margin over KC Esubio and Max Michel, who despite zeroing stage 16 on Day 3, found himself only 30 points behind going into the final Stage 6.

JJ took his turn on the stage and to everyones shock suffered a disastrous jam, opening the door to the Championship. The photos tell the story.Open_Prod-55

Max, next in the box began strong, shooting the first positions with ease, but he too had a slight equipment issue with a magazine, costing a second or two, not quite the run he felt he would need. Open_Prod-54

Next was KC’s turn. It was speculated a good solid run would take the win as he stepped into the box. KC blazed through the first positions, stormed into the downrange ports and on his second to last shot clipped a no-shoot. He made up the shot but the damage was done.Open_Prod-52Open_Prod-53

At first it was speculated that Max had won, but Max wasn’t convinced feeling that KC had shot just enough to hold off Max who needed to make up 30 points.

I can’t tell you who won. As I left the range everyone had an opinion. We’ll know for sure at the awards banquet in another couple hours and I’ll update you on all the Titles including the hotly contested Ladies Titles.

Update

Max Michel is the 2009 USPSA Open Production National Champion The dramatic finish was enough to give Max the win by a mere 6 points over 2nd place KC Esubio. JJ Racaza’s devastating jam dropped him to 3rd after a hard fought match.

Megan Francisco is the Ladies Open Champion followed by Rebecca Jones and Kay Miculek.

The Production Championship went to defending Champ Bob Vogel with 2nd place going to Dave Sevigney and Phil Strader in 3rd.

The Ladies Production Champion is Jessie Abbate coming off of her World record Steel Challenge win only a month ago. Julie Golob of Team Smith & Wesson fought through an injury to take 2nd and Randi Rogers shooting for Team Glock finished 3rd.
