Sabre Defence Industries Sponsors Competitive Shooting

located in Nashville, Tennessee, is proud to be a major sponsor for the competitive shooting sports.

As a manufacturer of rifles and machine guns for the U.S. military and commercial markets, Sabre sees the competitive shooting sports as vital to maintaining our nation’s heritage as a land of competitive sportsmen and marksmen.

Sabre sponsors more than a dozen shooting competitions per year throughout the United States. From their own Sabre Defence/Blue Ridge Mountain 3-Gun Match held at the Rock Castle Shooting Center near Bowling Green, Kentucky, in April, to the Ft. Benning 3-Gun Match held at the U.S. Army’s Ft. Benning military base in Georgia every December, Sabre is happy to sponsor these events and to support the shooting sports and the competitors. In 2008, Sabre Defence donated more than $100,000 in prizes and sent factory personnel to compete in these events.

“Sabre Defence is also proud to sponsor the NRA sanctioned Johnson 3-gun match in June,” says Michael Curlett, Director of Sales and Marketing for Sabre Defence. “Sabre and the NRA are dedicated to promoting the shooting sports through these exciting competitions,” Curlett said. “Sabre started sponsoring Multi-Gun matches as soon as we started in business in 2002. We have been involved with the NRA for the past several years in helping them to bring Multi-Gun (3-Gun) competitions under their official support and patronage. We are glad to partner with the NRA in support of this fast growing and exciting new sport.”

Multi-Gun, also known as “3-Gun,” competitions are fast-moving action shooting games that require the competitor to use different firearms, usually a rifle, shotgun and pistol, to engage a variety of targets all while racing against the clock for the fastest time. Targets come in the form of paper silhouettes, steel plates, and clay pigeons, to name a few, and are often designed to swing, fly, or swivel. Shots are taken around every conceivable obstacle and barrier and challenge the competitor to plan his course, move fast and shoot accurately.

In addition to sponsoring matches, Sabre also sponsors a number of individual competitors in 3-Gun and other shooting disciplines. “Our sponsored shooters are the ambassadors for the sport and are vital to helping the sport grow,” Curlett says. “Sabre supports those shooters who are involved in the sport in more ways than just as competitors.

Our sponsored shooters aren’t just there to collect the top award at the end of the match. They are the kind of person who you will find teaching a junior to shoot, lending their gear to a fellow competitor, acting as a range officer while others enjoy the game, or helping out with the logistics of putting on a match.”

A perfect example of one of our sponsored shooters is Denise Johnson, who is a grade-school teacher, a top female 3-Gun competitor, and, who with her husband JJ Johnson, organize and put on two matches each year, one being the Johnson 3-Gun Match in Pueblo, Colorado, and the other is the Rocky Mountain 3-Gun Match held at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. “Denise is a wonderful bundle of energy,” Curlett says. “She both organizes and competes with the same vibrant energy. She works hard to see that these matches are fun, yet challenging, and we are proud to sponsor her and her matches.”

Sabre has a number of sponsored shooters, all of them great individuals. From the husband and wife team of Cheryl and Rod Current, to the junior NRA High Power Service Rifle competitor, Chris Calumpong, Sabre is proud to be associated with these fine people.
